Stunning nightsky spiral in Norway

Eine umfassende Studie mit dem Very Large Telescope der ESO hat ein bereits seit längerem bekanntes Rätsel um sonnenähnliche Sterne weiter vertieft. Es geht um ungewöhnliche Helligkeitsschwankungen, die sich über Jahre hinweg wiederholen und die bei rund einem Drittel aller sonnenähnlichen Sterne gegen Ende ihres Sternenlebens auftreten. Im Laufe der letzten Jahrzehnte haben Astronomen eine Reihe möglicher Erklärungen für dieses Phänomen vorgeschlagen – doch die neuen Untersuchungen sind mit keiner davon vereinbar. Die Suche nach des Rätsels Lösung geht weiter.
